Q.What is the maximum number of units that can be controlled by the AZ Series EtherNet/IP compatible drivers?

A.

The number of units is determined by the processing power of the scanner (host controller). The regulations can be found in the scanner specifications.

  • Number of times that can be sent and received per second PPS: Packets per second
  • Number of EtherNet/IP compatible devices that can be connected: Number of connections

Calculate the communication load on Ethernet based on these specification values and confirm how many units can be controlled.
The limit is the smaller of the number of connections calculated from the formula and the maximum number of connections of the scanner.
Refer to the manual, etc. of your scanner for detailed information such as calculation formulas.

Example: PLC manufactured by Keyence (KV-8000 Series)

Permissible Communication Band [PPS]
10,000
Communication Cycle [RPI]
10 [ms]
Number of Connections
256

When communication load is set to 50 %
10,000 [pps] × 50 [%] / (1,000 [ms] / 10 [ms] × 2) = 25 [units]
